Intelligent Systems Research Group

The Intelligent Systems Research Group (ISRG) has interests in a diverse range of topics within the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Computational Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cognitive Systems. Our main application areas are Process Improvement, Quality Assurance, Signal Processing, Robotics and Automation.
One of our main areas of interest is Evolutionary Computation especially genetic algorithms (GAs). In particular research has been undertaked on small population GAs combined with experimental design to attempt on-line speed optimisation.
Another area of interest is Reinforcement Learning with a particular emphasis on temporal abstracion and learning for robot control.
Lastly, the group has strong interests in robotics and intelligent robot control. Research is currently underway on behaviour-based control of robots in highly dynamic environments, e.g., running rivers.
